A young man was hanged in Isfahan today

2 Jul 08

Iran Human Rights, July 1: A young man identified as Hamid was hanged in Isfahan’s prison early this morning according to the Iranian daily newspaper qudsdaily. He was convicted of a murder two years ago (May 2006). Hamid’s age was not mentioned in the report.

However the website "Ebrat", which is close to the security forces reported that " a 19 years old man, identified as Hamid, was hanged in the Isfahan prison today". If the age given by Ebrat is correct, Hamid was 17 years old when he committed the offence he was hanged for, making him a minor offender.

According to the site "Democracy and human rights activists in Iran" Hamid was born in 1986.

Iran Human rights is investigating whether Hamid was a minor at the time he allegedly committed the offence.
