REVISED: Iranian authorities have executed Ali Ashtari convicted of espionage for Israel

Iran Human Rights, November 22: Iranian authorities have executed a man identified as Ali Ashtari, convicted of espionage for the Israeli intelligence service Mossad, according to the official Iranian news agency IRNA today.

The report which was quoting head of the Iranian intelligence service, said that Mr. Ashtari was arrested 20 months ago and has confessed to all charges including espionage for the Israeli secret service.

According to the report, Mr. Ashtari was hanged last Monday November 17.

htm" class='spip_out' rel='external'>report, also said: " we normally do not execute the spies, and whenever e execute them we normally do not broadcast news of the execution. By declaring news of Ashtari’s execution we wanted to warn about the increasing activities of the hostile secret services and that the war of information has reached a new level"

 

He also warned that the foreign secret services are increasingly using internet for the purposes of espionage.

Iranian authorities have planned to pass a new legislation where they can issue death penalty for internet crimes. Increasning number of activists are being charged with co-operation with foreign countries.
