Iran Executions: Prisoner Hanged in Shirvan

Iran Human Rights (Jul 23, 2018): A prisoner was executed at Shirvan Prison on murder charges and another one was able to win the consent of the plaintiffs.

According to a close source, on the morning of Sunday, July 22, a prisoner was executed at Shirvan Prison. The prisoner, sentenced to death on murder charges, was identified as Salman Khodayari, from Boroujerd.

A close source told IHR, “Salman committed murder in a fight and was immediately arrested five years and eight months ago.” The source also added, “The family of the victim had agreed to give their consent by receiving blood money but they changed their mind after another fight between their tribes.”

Salman Khodayari was transferred to the solitary confinement along with another prisoner named Karam Tohidi on Saturday. Karam Tohidi was able to win the consent of the plaintiffs and returned to his cell.

The execution of this prisoner has not been announced by the state-run media so far.

According to Iran Human Rights annual report on the death penalty, 240 of the 517 execution sentences in 2017 were implemented due to murder charges. There is a lack of a classification of murder by degree in Iran which results in issuing a death sentence for any kind of murder regardless of intensity and intent.
