Iran Human Right (IHR); November 21, 2018: Prominent human rights lawyer Abdolfattah Soltani was released earlier today after spending 8 years in prison.

According to his lawyer, Abdolfattah Soltani was granted conditional freedom. Under Iranian law, he was eligible for conditional release since three years ago. However, authorities had repeatedly rejected the request for his freedom.

Soltani was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment which was reduced to 10 years.

Abdolfattah Soltani had been granted furlough to attend her young daughter’s funeral on Saturday, August 4, 2018 and had returned to Rajai Shahr prison on October 28, 2018.

Abdolfattah Soltani has represented a number of prominent dissidents, civil activists, Bahai minorities and political prisoners prior to his arrest.
