Iran Human Rights, May 24: Abdolhamid Rigi, brother of Abdolmalek Rigi the imprisoned leader of Jondollah, was hanged in Zahedan (south-east Iran) early today.

The official Iranian news agency IRNA wrote in its report that Abdolhamid Rigi was hanged in the central prison of Zahedan, the capital of the Iranian Sistan-Baluchestan province.

Abdolhamid Rigi was handed by the Pakistani authorities to the Iran in 2009 and has appeared in several TV programs confessing against himself and the Jondollah-group. Iranian authorities use televised confessions of prisoners systematically. Execution of Abdolhamid Rigi had been postponed at least twice before.

Jondollah is a militant Sunni Muslim group involved in armed struggle against the Iranian authorities. Jondollah’s leader Abdolmalek Rigi was arrested by the Iranian authorities few months ago.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of Iran Human Rights, condemned today’s execution and said: We strongly condemn execution of Abdolhamid Rigi and any other execution in Iran". He added: "The trials are unfair and prisoners are often subjected to torture".
