URGENT: The Kurdish political prisoner Habibollah Latifi scheduled to be executed in two days

Iran Human Rights, December 24: According to the reports from Iran, the Kurdish political prisoner Habibollah Latifi, is scheduled to be executed in two days.

Mr. Latifi attorney, Saleh Nikbakht, has confirmed the news and said that he has been informed by the Iranian authorities that his client will be hanged in Sanandaj prison on 26th December.

The news has also been confirmed by Mr. Latifi’s family.

Habibillah Latifi, a 29 years old engineering student from the University of Ilam, was arrested in 2007 and later sentenced to death convicted of Moharebeh (at war with God). His charges include involvement in several acoustic explosions, as well as filming and photographing them, in the city of Sanandaj.

It also includes an assassination attempt on the life of the Sanandaj Prosecutor, as well as an attack on a local police station.

Mr. Latifi has denied all the charges, however his death sentence was upheld by the Supreme court.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of Iran Human Rights, urged the world community to do whatever they can in order to stop the scheduled execution. He said: "If the international community doesn’t react immediately, we are affraid Mr. Latifi will be executed on Sunday". He added:" Mr. Latifi has been tried by a revolutionary court and according to our reports he has been subjected to torture and ill-treatment in the prison". Amiry-Moghaddam ended: "Iranian authorities are taking disadvantage of the absence of the international attention during the Christmas holidays and we are concerned about a new execution wave in the coming weeks".

Iran Human Rights had previously warned against execution of "sensitive" cases during the Christmas holidays.
