Hafez Baniasadi Hanged for Armed Robbery in Mashhad

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); February 5, 2025: Hafez Baniasadi, a man sentenced to death on the charge of moharebeh (enmity against God) for armed robbery, was executed in Mashhad Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was hanged in Mashhad (Vakil Abad) Central Prison on 3rd February 2025. His identity has been established as Hafez Baniassadi from Kahnuj.

Hafez was arrested for armed robbery around four years ago and sentenced to death on the charge of moharebeh by the Revolutionary Court.

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Article 279 of the Islamic Penal Code defines moharebeh (enmity against God) as: “drawing a weapon on the life, property or honour of the public or causing them terror, in a way that creates an environment of insecurity.”

Article 281 of the IPC stipulates that “bandits, robbers and smugglers who resort to arms and disrupt the security of the public and roads, shall be considered a mohareb.”
