EDIT, 30 September 2025: According to his lawyer Abolfazl Gholami, his client's name was Bahram, not Bahman as officially reported. In a social media post, he stated that a second appeal and stay of execution had been filed on 27 September and sent to the relevant authorities. However, Bahram Choobi Asl was transferred from Evin Prison without prior notice and executed yesterday.
Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); September 29, 2025: State media reported the execution of a prisoner named Bahman Choobi Asl for the charge of “efsad-fil-arz (corruption on earth) through espionage for Israel” at an undisclosed location.
Condemning Bahman Choobi Asl’s execution, IHRNGO reiterates that due process and fair trial rights are systematically violated by the Islamic Republic, with torture-tainted confessions used as evidence.
According to the judiciary’s Mizan News Agency, a man was hanged at an undisclosed location on 29 September 2025. His identity has been reported Bahman Choobi Asl who was sentenced to death on the charge of “efsad-fil-arz through espionage for Israel.” He was reportedly a specialist in database technology.
No information about him was previously reported by state media or human rights organisations. Due to intense pressure and threats against the families of those accused of espionage or of political and security-related offences, many are forced into silence. Authorities often promise that remaining silent will help the prisoner’s case, a promise that is routinely broken and instead leads to the prisoner’s execution in near total news blackout.
Bahman Choobi is the eleventh man to be executed for espionage in 2025 and the ninth to be executed since the 12-day war between Israel and Iran.
Since 30 April, the Islamic Republic has executed Mohsen Langarneshin, Pedram Madani, Esmail Fekri, Majid Mosayebi, Mohammad Amin Mahdavi Shayesteh, Edris Ali, Azad Shojaei, Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul, Rouzbeh Vadi and Babak Shahbazi.
