Ahmad Sajadi Hanged for Drug Offences in Arak

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); November 20, 2025: Seyed Ahmad Sajadi (Marzijerani), a man on death row for drug-related offences, was executed in Arak Central Prison. According to documents obtained by IHRNGO, his sentence was previously overturned by the Supreme Court.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was hanged in Arak Central Prison on 9 November 2025. His identity has been established as Seyed Ahmad Sajadi (Marzijerani), a 37-year-old man from Marzijeran in Arak. He was sentenced to death on drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court.

According to a court ruling obtained by IHRNGO, the Supreme Court had previously overturned his sentence. In recently years, Seyed Ahmad had been vocal about his innocence.

In an audio recorded before his execution, he states that the prison warden intends to have him executed and calls on the public not to remain indifferent to his situation. According to informed sources, Seyed Ahmad was subjected to pressure and threats for speaking out about his wrongful conviction.

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Drug-related executions have continuously risen every year since 2021. According to IHRNGO’s 2024 Annual Report on the Death Penalty, at least 503 people were executed for drug-related charges, of which only under 3% were announced by official sources. 17% of all drug-related executions in 2024 were Baluch minorities while they represent 2-6% of Iran’s population. At least 612 people were executed for drug-related offences in the first ten months of 2025.
