Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); December 7, 2025: The lifeless body of Khosrow Alikordi, an Iranian human rights lawyer, was found in his office on the morning of Saturday, 6 December. Relatives say that signs of bruising, head trauma and bleeding from the nose and mouth were visible on his body. CCTV cameras at this office were seized by the police and his family has yet to be granted access to the footage.
Referring to the Islamic Republic’s record of murdering political dissidents, artists and protesters, including the “chain murders” committed by the Ministry of Intelligence, IHRNGO calls for the establishment of an independent international fact-finding inquiry to clarify the circumstances of Khosrow Alikordi’s death.
IHRNGO Director, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam said: “There is very serious suspicion of a state murder in this case. Since there is no independent mechanism for oversight and investigation in the Islamic Republic, officials have never been held to account, and no level of transparency exists, only an independent commission of inquiry under international supervision can uncover the truth about the suspicious death of Khosrow Alikordi.”
Khosrow Alikordi was a 45-year-old lawyer from Sabzevar, living in Mashhad. He and his brother, Javad Alikordi, representenced many political prisoners and civil society activists. Khosrow represented political prisoner Fatemeh Sepehri, several detainees from the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising, and a number of families seeking justice, including the family of Abolfazl Adinezadeh, a teenage protester killed during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” nationwide protests.
Khosrow was himself imprisoned for carrying out his professional duties and had another case pending, for which the final verdict had not yet been issued.
His body was found in his office on Saturday, 5 December 2025. An informed source told IHRNGO that the emergency services, after examining the body at the scene, said that he had been dead for around 10 hours. It is therefore highly likely that he died on the evening of Friday, 4 December. His relatives say that Khosrow had no serious health issues, did not smoke, and that a heart attack, officially cited as the cause of death, was unlikely.
Another source also confirmed that signs of assault were visible on his body and that the office cameras had been removed.
