Issa Mazarzehi

Issa Mazarzehi is a 25-year-old Baluch man who was arrested at his home on 5 September 2023, a month after his wedding. Four of his relatives were simultaneously arrested at their homes. Issa has been held incommunicado since his arrest and subjected to torture to extract self-incriminating confessions. He has also been denied access to a lawyer. According to reports from prison, Issa was looking for religious guidance on taking his own life to escape the unbearable impact of the torture and pressure he endured. 

CHARGES: Baghy (armed rebellion) through membership of an opposition group.

STATUS: Sentenced to death, which was subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court. Issa is held in Zahedan Central Prison where he could be executed at any time.
