Khosrow Sadeghi-Boroujeni is a labour and social journalist and researcher. He was arrested for his reports and research into poverty and social inequality in May 2019. On 3 February 2020, he was sentenced to five years imprisonment for “assembly and collusion against national security," two years for “insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic” and a year for “propaganda against the system” by the Tehran Revolutionary Court. On appeal, Branch 36 of the Tehran Court of Appeals upheld the first two charges and overturned the charge for “propaganda against the system.” He was transferred to Evin Prison to serve his sentence on 9 September 2020. Khosrow was denied effective medical treatment, specialist treatment outside the prison and medical furlough.
Khosrow was briefly furloughed on medical grounds in September 2022. He survived the October 15 attack on Evin Prison during the nationwide protests. He was released after being included in the general amnesty list in February 2023. On 9 April, he tweeted that he was acquitted of the "assembly and collusion against national security" charges by the Supreme Court. He served two and a half years.
