Three men convicted of the Shiraz bombing were hanged today

Iran Human Rights, April 10: Three men were hanged in the Adelabad prison of Shiraz early this morning, reported the official Iranian news agency IRNA. The men were among 15 people arrested for involvment in a bomb explosion at an Islamic centre in Shiraz, where 14 people (most of whom belonging to the Basidj; the volounteer section of the revolutionary guards) were killed according to teh report. The report said that the men were convicted of "Moharebeh (a term used for those involved in armed struggle with the authorities), attempt to topple the Islamic regime, cooperation with the anti-revolutionary groups trying to topple the regime, keeping arms and drinking alcohol".

According tpo other reports, the men who were hanged today were not given a fair trial since they couldn’t choose their defending lawyers.

The human rights lawyer Mr. Abdolfattah Soltani, belonging to Shirin Ebadi’s human rights centre, said in an interview to the website of the human rights centre: "I was asked by the family of Mr. Yahiazadeh to defend him in the court, but this was not accepted by the authorities". "This is against the constitution, since everyone regardless of the offence they have committed are eligible of choosing a defend lawyer" he added.
