Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); January 5, 2023: Rostam Abbaszadeh and Mehdi Asgari who were sentenced to death for drug-related offences, have been executed in Ghezelhesar Prison. Six others are at risk of execution.
According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, two men were executed in Ghezelhesar Prison on January 5. Their identities have been established as 47-year-old Rostam Abbaszadeh (pictured) and Mehdi Asgari who were sentenced to death for drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court.
An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Rostam Abbaszadeh was arrested for carrying drugs around six years ago and sentenced to death. He had two young children. The second defendant in the case received a prison term. Mehdi Asgari was sentenced to death for 70-80 kilograms of narcotics.”
At the time of writing, neither of their executions have been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
Furthermore, six other men were transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for their executions.
This is the first executions to be carried out in Ghezelhesar Prison in almost three years.
