Nasrin Javadi (Azam Khezri) is a workers rights activist and a member of the Free Union of Iranian Workers and a founding member of the Social Security Retired Workers Council. She was arrested on 1 May 2019 along with other participants at the May Day rally. She was released from Qarchak prison on a 100 million tomans bail in May 2019. In August 2019, Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari sentenced Nasrin to five years in prison on charges of “assembly and collusion against national security”, a year in prison for “propaganda against the system” and another year for “disrupting public order” and 74 lashes, a two year ban on the use of smartphones and membership and activities in political and social groups and parties for “disrupting public order”. On appeal, the five year sentence was upheld but the two charges of “propaganda against the system and disrupting public order” were dropped. Nasrin was summoned to serve her sentence on 30 June 2020 which she refused to respond to. Nasrin surrendered to Evin Prison to serve her sentence on 2 July 2022 despite being physically unfit for prison. On 7 October, it was reported that by the request of the Prisons Organisation, a new case had been opened against 14 female political prisoners including Nasrin for refusing to be shackled and handcuffed when being transferred for court dates.
Nasrin is currently behind bars in Evin Prison despite previously being ruled unfit to serve her sentence. Her union have expressed grave concern for her health, citing the multiple illnesses and ailments she suffers from.
