Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri
Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri is a 47-year-old Kurdish father who was summoned and arrested on 17 April 2023 for providing medical assistance to “Woman, Life, Freedom” protesters. He was subjected to physical torture that included waterboarding, mock executions and electric shocks which he described in a letter from prison in April 2025. Rezgar and his co-defedants’ torture-tinted confessions were later aired by state media. Despite filing a legal complaint for the torture he had endured, the case was closed “under the pretext that a year had passed since the torture occured.” When Rezgar and his 13 co-defendants testified about the torture in their Revolutionary Court trial, Judge Najafzadeh responded “Did you expect them to serve you kebab?” Rezgar is held in Urmia Central Prison.
