Massoud Jamei (Bavi)

Massoud Jamei (Bavi) is a 47-year-old Arab father of four from the village of Shakhkoupal in Ahvaz. He was arrested in Ahvaz on 1 August 2023 and subjected to torture to extract confessions and denied access to a lawyer. State media claimed they were “connected” to the People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and had “intended to carry out disruptive operations.” Massoud suffers from colon cancer while he is being denied medical treatment. He was reportedly unrepresented at trial. 

There is also a case against him with his wife Zeinab Hazbapour and their three children, Nahid, Dalal and Roghieh. 

Massoud is held in Ahvaz Sheiban Prison.

CHARGES: Efsad-fil-arz (corruption on earth), baghy (armed rebellion) through membership in opposition groups and propaganda against the system.

STATUS: Branch 1 of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Adibimehr, issued two death sentences on 14 July 2025. Per reports, an appeal was filed on 23 July which was subsequently rejected by the Supreme Court which upheld the sentence on 12 November.
