Alireza Mardasi (Hamidavi)
Alireza Mardasi (Hamidavi) is a 52-year-old father and teacher arrested in Ahvaz on 1 August 2023. State media claimed they were “connected” to the People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and had “intended to carry out disruptive operations.” He was subjected to torture to extract confessions and denied medical care, access to a lawyer and was reportedly unrepresented at trial. Alireza is held in Ahvaz Sheiban Prison.
CHARGES: Efsad-fil-arz (corruption on earth), baghy (armed rebellion) through membership in opposition groups and propaganda against the system.
STATUS: Branch 1 of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Adibimehr, issued two death sentences on 14 July 2025. Per reports, an appeal was filed on 23 July which was subsequently rejected by the Supreme Court which upheld the sentence on 12 November.
