Amirhossein Maghsadlu (Tataloo)
Amirhossein Maghsadlu, known by his stage name, Tataloo, is a 37-year-old singer who was arrested upon returning to Iran on 6 December 2023. Having started his career in the early 2000s, he has been arrested multiple times by the morality police and Ministry of Intelligence and as part of the crackdown on “illegal studios.” Tataloo briefly retired from music in 2017 under pressure from security agencies, and in 2018, following the authorities’ opposition to holding concerts and artistic activities, he immigrated to Turkey. He has faced widespread criticism for comments about sexual relations with underage girls which led to accusations of sexual abuse of children.
Tataloo is currently serving a ten-year sentence for charges of “encouraging corruption and prostitution.” He is held in the Greater Tehran Penitentiary.
CHARGES: Insulting the sanctities of Islam (blasphemy).
STATUS: Tataloo was originally sentenced to five years imprisonment by Branch 9 of the First Criminal Court of Tehran which was overturned by the Supreme Court and referred to a court of equal standing. Upon retrial, he was sentenced to death by Branch 6 of the First Criminal Court, which was subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court. His lawyer reported that he had filed a judicial review appeal per Article 477 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on 13 May 2025 which is currently under consideration at the Supreme Court. Amirhossein has also repented and requested amnesty from the Supreme Leader per Article 114 of the Islamic Penal Code, which is currently under review.
