Yousef Ahmadi
Yousef Ahmadi is a 33-year-old Kurdish father of two violently arrested in Baneh in the spring of 2020. He was shot in the leg during arrest and transferred directly to the Baneh Intelligence detention prior to being transferred to Sanandaj where he was subjected to severe physical torture that included electric shocks to extract confessions. His vertebrae were broken and he passed out under torture. Yousef was held incommunicado for five and a half months, denied medical treatment and access to a lawyer.
CHARGES: Baghy (armed rebellion) through membership of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan and participation in the murder of two IRGC members.
STATUS: Sentenced to death by Branch 1 of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Saeedi in September 2023, which was upheld by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court in early 2024. His two co-defendants received 20-25 year sentences. Yousef is held in Sanandaj Central Prison.
