Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); 20 April 2026: Mohsen Eslamkhah, a Kurdish “Woman, Life, Freedom” protester who was 16 years old at the time of his alleged offence, has been sentenced to death by the Mahabad Revolutionary Court based on his torture-tainted confessions.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, Mohsen Eslamkhah, a Kurdish “Woman, Life, Freedom” protester held in Bukan Prison, was sentenced to death by Branch One of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court in February 2026.

An informed source told IHRNGO: “Mohsen who was 16 at the time, was accused of playing a key role in the Bukan protests and the murder of a Basij member. He was forced to seek asylum in Iraqi Kurdistan after being identified through CCTV cameras and his family home was raided three times. He returned to Iran in August 2025 with guarantees of mediators but was immediately arrested.”

Mohsen was transferred to Urmia where according to informed sources “he was subjected to the severest torture to extract forced confessions to the killing of the Basij member during his 40 days in the Urmia Intelligence detention facility. His charges are completely false,” the source added.

He was transferred back to Bukan after the completion of his interrogations. About ten days later, he was taken to court and released on a bail of 5 billion tomans. However, around six months later, Mohsen’s case was referred to Branch One of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court which handed down the death sentence. He was summoned to the Mahabad court on 22 February where he was detained and transferred to Bukan Prison.

Mohsen also has a second case at Miandoab Criminal Court for murder charges.
