Iran Human Right (IHRNGO); 19 June 2026: Sadegh Shiri and Keyvan Rashidian, two co-defendants on death row for rape and murder, were secretly executed in Shiraz Central Prison. Per informed sources, the two men were subjected to torture under interrogations.
According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, two men were hanged in Shiraz (Adel Abad) Prison on 19 June 2026. Their identities have been established as 24-year-old Sadegh Shiri and 22-year-old Keyvan Rashidian.
An informed source told IHRNGO: “They were arrested for the rape and murder of a woman around 15 months ago. They were subjected to severe torture at the police station, with Keyvan’s right eardrum ruptured and Sadegh’s three front teeth broken.”
It appears that they were executed for the rape charges. The two men were hanged without prior notice, depriving them of last family visits.
At the time of writing, neither of their executions have been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
In cases of rape, there is a high chance of defendants being tortured to make false confessions, which is used to issue death sentences. Iran is one of the few countries in the world that issues the death penalty for rape. A lot of cases are also rushed without the defendants having access to a lawyer. According to the 2025 Annual Report on the Death Penalty in Iran, at least 37 people were executed for rape charges.
