Over the last five years, there has been a growing trend of Iranians expressing their opposition to the death penalty.
The 18th Annual Report on the Death Penalty in Iran, published by Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO) and Together Against the Death Penalty (ECPM), reveals a dramatic escalation in the use of the death penalty by the Islamic Republic in 2025. The year witnessed at least 1,639 executions, the highest reported number of executions since 1989.
